Guh, you sure do love leaning on the caps lock and period buttons. Anywho, what is this U.A.T.W.O.W.M.&.R.O.T.U.C.B.A.L.L.&.M.H.O.S.U.&.B.S.B.H?
It’s the CORPS joining a growing national movement on a day when marches and rallies are happening in cities and Capitols across America. Corps member Melissa Stephens is an organizer of the Los Angeles event and we jumped at the opportunity to help spread awareness and mobilize.
Why?
April 28th will be the day for Americans to loudly denounce the ongoing attacks on women from the extreme right as well as honor the diversity and continued fight for the freedom of women.
Yeah… but why?
Across the country, through legislative proposals, government regulations and political rhetoric, a war is being waged against women, our bodies, our rights and our freedom. For specific examples and more information, please see attached press release from Unite Women.
What will the event be like?
We’ll gather downtown at the south side of Pershing Square (6th and Olive) starting at 10:00am, speakers will start at 10:30am. At 11:00am we will march together to Fletcher Bowron Square across from City Hall. The rally program will begin at 12:00pm with speakers, entertainment and Corps member JC Coccoli emceeing.
DOWNTOWN? WHAAA?!?
Calm down, there are many modes of transpo that will get you to Pershing Square. There are parking structures and street parking along the march route. You could totes bike-it. However, the best option is taking the Metro Rail Red Line and getting off on the Pershing Square stop. After the rally, go to the Civic Center Station just up the street from City Hall or go back to Pershing Square. Do you.
I have this thing at ___ and I can’t be there the whole time…
No worries, come when you can and stay for as long as you want. We’d say the most important time to be there is during the march, but do what you gotta do. Keep doing you.
I love to chant. The calling out and repeating in unison really does it for me.
There’s going to be lots of chanting opportunities, especially during the march. DY.*
Where will we meet before the march?
Pershing Square. Wear your UCB gear if you’d like and look for the faces of your friends. Follow us at @ucbcorps on twitter find out our whereabouts in real time. We’ll also be taking pictures and posting, make sure you tag us when you do too.
Just thinking out loud… I wonder how I can merge my love of poster board and sharpies with this event?
Make signage to proudly carry! Make them in a group so you can share supplies, now is the time to crack open your arts & crafts caboodle!
Cool, I’m in!
Great, bring as many people as you can and let’s doooooo thissss!
